    Ceiling fan not working
My ceiling fan stopped operating. The speed of the fan is regulated by a wall dimmer switch. It isn't clicking for the different speeds. Should I check the dimmer switch first , and replace it first? If that doesn't work, what should I do? Should I try to take the fan down?. I wouldn't know if it is broken or not. Should I hire someone to come and find out the problem? Will the wiring show any signs that the fan has burned out?

Before you do anything you should open the switch box and confirm that you have power going to the switch. If yes then confirm or deny power coming out of the switch when switched on. If you have power both before and after the witch then we will be moving up to the fan.
