    WiFi

Hope I am not breaking protocol here but I have a similar question to boybe12. I want to come out of the dark ages and purchase a wireless router. My broadband spec is 10Mb at present but will soon be increased to, possibly, 50Mb in the near-future. What spec equipment do I need for this? I presume from ITStudent2006's table that 'G' is the minimum (my home is not more than 35m across!). Also my current PC does not have a Wireless card installed. Is this easily done by a relative hardware novice?

tonko, going wireless doesn't bring you out of the Dark Ages, it makes you vulnerable and slower. They ARE convient.
You can get a USB wireless for your laptop that plugs into the USB, you won't have to open Computer.

First its not a good idea to piggyback your question on someone else's. This can lead to confusion. You should start a new thread. So I've moved your question to its own thread.

You want a wireless router because a) you want to add a PC and its impractical or expensive to run an Ethernat cable to where the PC would be or b) you have a mobile PC that you want to be able to use in various places and don't want to have to install jacks in all those places.

I assume your current PC is already connected to your broadband modem. You will connect it directly to your router instead. All routers have at least a 4 port switch built in for wired connections.
