Window 2000 to xp errorrrrrrr
Hi,
I have window 2000 and now I sarted upgrade to window xp.
I put the disk (XP) in the CD ROM and started upgrade.
I put CD Key and the files started to copy and then the problem started.
When the computer boots at very first It halts at Windows XP logo screen and never go further.
I tried so many times and so much things.
I restarted again but no use.
I cancel the setup but no use.
I put the win 2000 in cd rom and but again but no use.
I gone with win2000 and press for repair but It is showing only in console for repair.
When I go for whole os repair it is not showing that previous os detected and for repair choice.
It is directly showing the drives to install 2000.
I feared that C will formated and my data loss forever.
My mail and data are there in C drive.
Just help me to get back to 2000 or just upgrade to xp without losing my data.
Please help

Windows 2000 can be upgraded to Windows XP Professional but not XP Home.
One option is to take that C: and install in another computer to save the data. haven't played with Win 2000 in ages so I can't comment on its reinstallation options.

Am assuming you have a floppy drive as using 2000.
Do you still have your 2000 install software?

Get to startup option menu first, info below
Would first try to Last Known Good Configuration
Save all of important info you may want/need
If that does not work, try to get into safe mode and save your data and then go with the Clean Install if you want to get XP installed
Users who may not be able to boot into normal mode or are not able to troubleshoot their computer properly may need to boot into Safe Mode bypassing normal windows settings and startup programs and allowing the user to fix their computer.
How to get out of Safe Mode?
Which Safe Mode option should I choose?
Windows 2000 / XP users
Tip: If you are running Safe Mode because you cannot get into Windows you may want to first try loading the last known good configuration. Additional information about this mode can be found on document
How to load last known good configuration.
To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Hope this info helps out, if not, see if you can get hold of another XP disk and try the upgrade option again

Well thanks seahwk83,
I tried to start from safe mode, safe command prompt, last known good configuration but my computer doesn't started.
It got hanged up in the middle.
The important thing was my data, then I put the win98 CD in CD ROM and boot with it.
Then start it in safemode and guess what I got everything.
I can access everything whether in C drive or any other drive and even the profile of every user. But all that is in command prompt then I put my pendrive and again restart 98 with safe mode.
Now my pendrive was there and data. Copied the data from harddisk to pendrive.
Just got everything I want.
But thanks for valuable help, Seahwk83 I got this Idea from your help that is starting from safe mode.
Thank you once again.
