    Theft under 5000..
Last year, I was charged with theft under 5000. And just as usual I went to court , but the thing is that this was my first offence. So they were very easy with me, I had to do some diversion program and you I did that. When back to court and I was free too go. Some people told me that when I turn 18 all this things will be taken off my records. Now I am 18 and I applying for a security job. And It says no criminal record with out a pardon.. is my diversion considered like a pardon. And is this going to follow up on my record when they do the screening for me.. and if it does maybe how I can get it erased... please help me I need this job

    Thank you

    Where do you live??

If your answer is CANADA, then you have NO CRIMINAL RECORD.

Upon your 18th birthday, your entire juvenile criminal record is deleted.

So you can say, “I have no criminal record. Period. End of story”. And when they do a search on you, it will come back saying that you have no criminal record.

If you were convicted, then it's on your record regardless of how lenient a sentence you may have received. You may be able to get it expunged - talk with an attorney.

    s_cianci ,

tarrock does NOT live in the USA, nor was the crime committed there.

Canadian law is a bit different.

Under the Young Offenders Act (YOA), the under 18 criminal's name can not be published in any for of media, and upon their 18th birthday, their records are wiped clean.

There has been a lot of debate over this, should they essentially be getting a “clean slate” once they turn 18. For petty theft and vandalism, maybe, but for other, more serious crimes, I think not.

Take a murdered for example. Some kid kills someone else, and upon them turning 18, they don't have a record anymore.

In one case, a 17yr old killed his younger brother. The newspaper said that a 17 yr old youth was charged with killing his younger brother. However, they could not even list the deceased name because by doing so it would link it to the older brother, who committed the offence.
