Hi I don't know the actually time between colouring but you have to be really carefully if you are going lighter as the chemicals in the coulournat can cause hair to fall out if overly used I have died my hair two weeks after an original dye as I hated the colour and worked fine but when I went to the hairdressers nect and told them they said I should have waited 6 weeks?

Saffron2903 does not understand the problem -- and six weeks is totally off the wall and scientifically ridiculous. Dyed hair can be recolored the same day, if you wish.

Chemicals used in haircoloring do not cause hair to fall out. In fact, they can not cause hair to fall out. If you overuse bleaches and dyes, however, hair may break off, but that's a far cry from falling out. Falling out implies that it will not grow back -- it will. Also, if you actually pulled the same hairs out of the scalp, it would take longer to grow back than if the hairs broke off at the scalp.

Hair does not heal. It doesn't get better with time. There is no blood supply to the hair shaft to provide energy and proteins and all the things that would be required to repair the hair. Once you've damaged it, it cannot be repaired. This includes the advertised reconstructors and conditioners. They will help out but the hair shaft cannot be fixed. The new growth isn't damaged by coloring and the hair will eventually grow out.

If I dyed someone's hair today, and they didn't like the color, I'd probably wait a day and do it again the next day (unless the hair was too damaged already, and in that case I probably wouldn't dye the hair in the first place). The reason for the wait is to allow oils from the scalp to be produced. These can protect the scalp from being so irritated.

Also remember that you can't use a lighter haircoloring over already-colored hair. Hair dyes will not lighten darker hair dyes. You must use a color remover first. "Color doesn't lighten color" is what most stylists say when someone tries to dye over hair that's been previously colored.
