Does a hit and run go on your background record?
I was involved in a hit and run accident. I left the scene of the accident. A year went by and I am just going to court for this because the person who I hit decided to not have the charges dropped. My insurance company has paid for his car in full. I have to go back to court tomorrow and just pay a fine of $300. But I want to know will if a job does a back ground check on me, will this hit and run show up?. will it me on my record?

Were you charged criminally with hit and run or are you talking about settling the accident claim?

If you were charged with hit and run, yes, that and all driving offenses will show up on your background check.

Well the person who I hit, says that's he still owes $1,500 on his car. But my insurance company already paid him about $10,000 already. He didn't have me arrested. But he wants me to pay that $1,500. This accident happened a year ago. And I told him I don't have a job so I can't pay him that. So he decided to not have the charges dropped. I went into the station and they gave me a ticket to go to court. But I was not fingerprinted. In court the judge said the guy still wants the $1500. I still don't have a job so the judge is going to make me pay a $300 fine.

If you are paying a fine there is an arrest so, yes, it will be on your record.

I was not fingerprinted or read my rights... so that's still considered an arrest?

If you are paying a fine, you were arrested. A traffic ticket is, in fact, in lieu of a formal arrest.

    Hello Q:

Every time you're requested, summoned, or otherwise told to go to court, you've technically been arrested...

But, that's not the question. The question is what will a background check turn up. The answer is, it depends on what kind of background check is done.

If you're applying to flip burgers at Micky D's, your driving offenses won't show up. But, if you're applying to be a COP, or an astronaut, it'll show up.

In the event you are serious, yes, hit and run is a motor vehicle (driving) offense. Driving offenses are part of the criminal justice system. Driving offense = criminal offense = permanent record.

    Hello again, Q:

It's an infraction. It doesn't rise to the level of a criminal charge. In other words, it's a driving offense.

That doesn't also mean that there isn't a hit and run felony charge they could have levied upon you. But, with a fine of $300, I think it's just a ticket.

You can either pay someone to run your own background check or ask someone who has run it for a copy. You can also go to the Police Station and ask if there are any outstanding warrants for you, pull copies of your credit report, do everything that is done as part of a background check.
