    Signing over rights
I am the mom of a new baby. The father and I are no longer together and I have a girlfriend. The father isn't ready for a baby, so if he agreed, could he sign rights over to my girlfriend. How difficult would that be? What types of things would they look at in my girlfriend for that to be okay?

If your girlfriend is willing to adopt, then the father can relinquish his rights to allow the adoption.

However, your local laws may prevent same sex adoption. Since you will need an attorney to process the adoiption paperwork, you will be best off consulting an attorney to see whether this is doable.

Yes unless someone ( new partner) is willing to adopt they are not going to just let him sign over his rights.

Also since you are female and asked about a girlfriend adopting, this is still not allowed in many states. Gay and lesbian couples do not have the same rights in many states to adopt.
