A couple of days ago, I went to my GP and was told I have a bacterial vaginal infection (vaginitus or something like that), I'm quiet worried as I haven't had one before. Previous to going to the doctor I had burning symptoms whilst urinating and swollen enlarged groin lymph nodes. I have had urinary tract infections before, but she said its probably not one now because of my lymph nodes. She said that the lymph nodes are most likely infected due to the vaginal infection, and put me on some Clamoxyl antibiotics. Im also currently on the contraceptive pill and I am due to take my inactive tables today. Is there a risk of making the vaginal infection worse if I have my period now? I want it to clear up as quickly as possible, so should I take my inactive tablets or should I continue on with the active and prevent my period?

On a side note, will not having my period alternately make the infection worse??

Hi there.
It's not uncomon for women to get the occasiona vaginal infection, so don't worry about it. The lymph-nodes in the groin try to absorb the infection and so that is why they become enlarged- again, nothing to worry about.
The antibiotics should clear the infection up, so make sure you take the full course.
As well as that, take your contraceptive pill as normal- any deviation from that will probably just make your cycle unpredicatable, and make the pill less effective.
Please note that when taking antibiotics of any kind, the contaceptive pill is less effective, and so it is best to abstain or use condoms whilst taking them.
You'll find that once the infection has cleared and you are off the antibiotics, your lymph-nodes will reduce in size (althought this may take a few weeks), and your cycle will get back to normal.
