Hello,
I am from Georgia, I left Atlanta in 2001 to attend college. I got pregnant and was in a relationship with my son's father until he became abusive in 2006. I had a protective order against him, but because I feared for my safety and the well-being of my son, I relocated back to Atlanta in 2007. Since then, I have had little to no contact with his father. He calls every now and then, and since 2006 he has probably contributed at the most $300 to his son. I have given him ample opportunities to come and visit his son, and even offered to met him half way, but to no avail, my son still hasn't had a chance to see him. He is college educated, no felonies, able bodied and has transportation, yet, he doesn't have/want a job and refuses to provide for my son emotionally or financially. Honestly, I have a fairly decent job, but in these economic times, I need the help and support from him. What can I do? I know his address in Nashville, but he is currently in Texas, playing on an arena football team. PLEASE HELP...

Have you been to court to establish paternity and child support? That is your very first step.

Yes we established paternity. Don't know how to go about child support because we are in different statess.

You go file in your state. He will have to come to you (or send a representative)

In GA failure to support one's child is called abandonment. So you can file a charge of abandonment in GA courts to get a support order in place. Since you know where he is, the courts can make sure he is served.

I have been through that mess and ironically I lived in Atlanta. If you have his address and hopefully a social security number look up child support services in Atlanta or actually whatever county you live in and open a case. If you know his where he lives they can find him and garnish his wages. Anything beyond that, you are going to have to hire an attorney because its really hard to get anywhere with the courts without one. Here is the link... Home it is your best bet without paying a lot of money. Good luck, I totally understand what you are going through

Sorry, but without taking this to Court and getting a child support order the OP cannot open a case, find where he lives and file a garnishment against his wages.

You do not need an Attorney in cases like this - he is the acknowledged father and he doesn't pay support. There is little else to say.
