    Hair dye disaster
I highlighted my natural dark brown hair with blonde highlights a few months ago, then decided I wanted to go back to my natural color. I dyed my hair with light brown dye and my hair is now black. How can I lighten it to brown or get this color out? Help! Please!

It's not as simple as everyone would make you believe.

First of all, it will fade. Your hair became more porous from being bleached (blonde highlights). Bleached hair tends to absorb color, but it also tends to lose it. If you wait for a week, and shampoo with a clarifying shampoo each day, it will fade substantially.

If you say, "No way will I wait!" then the answer is to use a color remover like ColorFix, Color Oops, Color Zap, or Igora Phantom. This will remove the dark dye. You then have to re-dye your hair because after using color remover, the hair color will not be your natural color -- and it probably won't look very pretty.

Be sure and select a shade at least one level and probably two levels lighter than you anticipate the color will be.
