    Statute of limitation on restitution
    What are the statutes of limitations on restitution for ssa fraud? I was told 20 years by the ausa in my state capital. Is that true? Can it be extended if the restitution is not paid off by that time? Will ssa usually stop collecting after probation, in 3 years or will they file for a civil judgment/lawsuit to collect the unpaid restitution? Approximately $35 thousand has been paid, but about $75 thousand including a fine with 2.21% interest is left. What do you think ssa will do in 3 years, after probation ends. Monthly restitution is being paid presently, but at such a low rate that ample amount will still exist after probation.

    Hello m:

    I don't know. It's my belief, however, that once you're off probation, the only way they can collect is through civil court. They certainly can't violate your probation and put you in jail if you don't pay AFTER your probation is ended.

    I think the statute of limitations is the same as for any civil offense. I would bet it's no longer than 3 years.
