    Haunted Hamton Ceiling Fan!
Hi! Yesterday our Hampton Bay Windward III ceiling fan decided to start coming on by itself! Anyone know why? Or how to fix it?

    Thanks!

Does it have a remote? If so, try changing the battery. Also try resetting the fan itself by flipping the panel breaker to the fan off for a few seconds and then back on. Sometimes a surge or brief power 'flicker' can cause this problem and can often be corrected this way... Also make sure no other remotes (TV, fan, garage door) are cross-talking to your fan. Try each one separately and see if it does. Any high powered radio signals (nearby radio station , ham radio operator) could possibly be a cause too...

Sounds like you need to swap frequencies. See:

OK ceiling fans are not that difficult. Now I want to put one on about a 25 degree angle ceiling in the mountians. The cabins only mounting spot is on a 6x8 beam. The wiring will run through conduit up the beam then over to a vertical wall where the electrical supply is. I cannot drill into the beam. The box is designed to be up in the ceiling so as to be covered by the canopy, and that's not going to happen is this application. I need a metal area for electrical connections and I need all the room in the canopy for the remote. Lucky me.

    Bigbear,
How about mounting a sturdy round junction box to the beam with several heavy duty screws and then cover the box with a short segment of PVC pipe or a PVC pipe coupler of the appropriate size and painted to match your décor? I did that with some outside floodlights and it turned out well. You can notch out the pipe to fit over the conduit... Name: fan.bmp
