    The Bible says that from noon till 3 PM there was darkness over the land. He was on the cross before this. He may also have been on the cross after the dark period was over for some time since the body was removed prior to sundown(as Jewish Law required) So the answer is a minimum of 3 hours and possibly up to 6 since he was in front of Pilate at about 9 am.

    Three hours sounds correct from biblical accounts and the fact that he was scourged with in an inch of his life.
