Effect of Divorce during Canada Immigration Process
My sister married to a Canada Immigrant person four years back. She is due to obtain full Canadian national status in next 7-8 months. Now she is experiencing some bad relation ship/behaviour from her Canadian Husband. What will be the consequence if she reaches to some point of no return, Divorce stage? Keeping in mind her sponsor is her Husband. Please give me some information, can I discuss this with Call Centres in Canada or it can hamper her case.
    Many Thanks in advance.

You don't say what country she is from, but I don't think that matters if you want more information regarding her predicment. She can still ask and remain anomymous. There is an on line service you can access

In Canada the Canadian spouse who is the sponsor is only financially responsible for the immigrant spouse for 3 years. Therefore if she has been in Canada almost 4 years he is no longer legally her sponsor for immigration purposes.

I'm not an expert on all facets of Canadian immigration but I think she can remain in Canada and apply for citizenship when she reaches the 4 year mark on her own, even after a divorce.

Have her call the Government directly (CIC, Citizenship and Immigration Canada) 1 888 242‑2100, the website posted above is for an Immigration lawyer, not the government of Canada
