Child support to Pay? Or what to Pay?
Will someone who just found out they are the biological father of a ten year old child have to pay back child support from when the child was born until now? Thank you for your time...

This issue has been covered here a few times recently. The answer depends on where you live, but generally Support cannot be made retroactive prior to the date the request for support was filed.

There may be some chance for a year or so in back support, but not much more than that.

Mostly like what is being said its going to depend on when the order was made. If your ex was on welfare and they tried to pursue you and couldn't find you it may be possible that it goes back that far. But on the other hand if this is something new being started then that's when it starts.

The main issue is get to court and have an attorney.

The other is to get the child a couselor to help with the start of visits to help them understand your new role as a father

I have a 3 year old child out of wedlock and I broke up with his father since September 2008. He was abusive and I had him arrested. After he got out of jail, I allowed him to still see our child. We agreed that he would pay the child support without the courts being involved. Well of course that...
