    Mounting toilet on uneven flange
Will be retiling a half bath on a concrete slab. Removed the old mortar and title.

I'm left with a high toilet flange that's a little uneven. I plan to mortar up the floor to get the new granite tile as close to the bottom of the flange as I can. Because it's uneven, there are places where it won't sit perfectly flat. Greatest separation is 3/8".I'm concerned that when I bring up the floor and install the tile, the toilet may not seal correctly. Will a thicker wax ring help?

Also, should I fill the gap between the bottom of the flange and top of the tile? What should I use?

Alternatively, I suppose I could gain another 1/8", or more, all around by cutting the tile to fit around the perimeter of the flange, and just mortaring up under the flange to support it.

Looking down at the flange, clock-wise is the height from the bottom of the flange to the top of the tile:
    2 o'clock = 1/4"
    4-6 o'clock = 3/8"
    9 o'clock = 1/8"
    11 o'clock = < 1/8"

I've attached a front and back pic of the problem

Any comments, suggestions, would be appreciate.

    Thanks,
    Chris

You are still way too high. If you can't raise the floor to be flush with the underside of the flange you may need to cut it out and install a new lower flange like an Oatey Twist-n-set.
