    Andre Raffray painting
I have come across an Andre Raffray painting entitled "Radieux matin (or matur)". I would like to know if this was one of his "copies" and what great artist may have painted the original. The painting that I have is an original watercolor. It has beautiful color and style. I would like to know more if anyone knows more about Raffray's paintings. Jeanne

I don't have new information about this piece of art, only to request that if you do find out any information, please forward it to me as well. I would greatly appreciate it.

My dad just gave me this work during his recent visit. It had been my mom's parent's wedding gift from a cousin and his wife in 1929. It hung in my grandfather's sight for 67 years. The original paper back is in pretty good shape, considering. Turns out its an artist proof and saying "Original French Etching". Serendipitiously, it's a super finishing touch for a newly decorated room. Its perfect, timely (for me) and appreciated. Again, I'd welcome any information about it.

    Hi...
I think the top post refers possibly to an Andre Raffray "copy" painting of the original by Dubuffet ( 1901-1985) which is attached to this post. (I am going by the name of the painting.) An overview of the painter Raffray's art is given in the NYT article:

ART IN REVIEW; Andre Raffray - The New York Times

A recent auction result for a small watercolor was 500-600 EURO. He has sold very much higher. Raffray was born in 1925. About the print, I may be missing something because he would have been very young to produce the same work of the age suggested. More about either (or the same) Raffray can be found on the threads related below to this thread.

If this response is off the mark, please post your pictures so that we are all happily on the same page. I hope this helps... Thanks.
