Itchy dog
I Have a year and a half old cocker spanial named Gary. For about a year now he has been itching, chewing and licking his skin. So much that he has lost he's hair behind his ears, on his belly, under his tail, and the back of his legs. He has a tiny red bumps where his hair used to be. Where he does have hair its really dry and dandriffy. We live in Iowa and It's been 4 seasons that he's been doing this. Its not worse during one time of the year compared to others, its constent year around. I have taken him to the vet over and over again they have switched him foods, done mite tests that have come back negative, switched his heart worm meds. they put him on staroids that seemed to work a little, they gave us some medicated shampoo, and the spray doesn't even fase him. The vet has pretty much thrown his hands up in the air with no more suggestions. I have spent over $2000 on vet visits and products. So now I'm reaching out. Is there anything I can do that will help my poor little boy?

Oh my.
I don't know what to tell you.
Let me do some research, see if I can find anything.
Remind me as I have lots on the go right now and may forget.
Just post again in this thread and tell me to get my butt in gear. ;)

Wow, found something interesting first try.

Check it out, do the test, see if this sounds like your dogs condition.
I cannot recommend the medication or treatment they prescribe because I've never heard of it, but it's worth checking into.

From what I read on the link I posted most vets do not know this condition and that's why it's missed. It really sounds like what you described, but seeing as the dog is right in front of you it would be best if you looked at the site and all the links in it to determine if you want to give this a try.
It sounds promising but I would still talk to your vet before actually purchasing it, just to make sure.
Let me know how it goes and if this helps. :)

I have looked into this. I'll ask my vet to see what he thinks. Thank you

No problem. I really hope this helps. Poor pup, itching isn't fun.

That's a really high pressure marketing website, Alty, but it does describe all the symptoms in the OP. Ambs, you might ask the vet to research systemic yeast infections on his own.

I got a mini Dachshund last week and she has been very itchy. She seems to be scratching/nibbling all over and especially on her sides. What is the cause of this? Do dogs get dry skin? Is there anything I can do for her?
