My friend told me that you ovulate before your period, but I have read that you ovulate after your period... I'm confused.

If you normally have a 28 day cycle, you would ovulate around day 14 county the first day of your period as day 1. Every cycle is different, however. Some women ovulate right after their period. Since sperm can live in the vagina for up to 30 days, sex during your period could possibly result in a pregnancy. Other women ovulate later than day 14. Stress can delay ovulation. The best way to tell when you ovulate is to check your basal body temperature upon waking every morning for a month or two. Your temperature rises right after ovulation. You can also check the consistency of your cervical fluid during your cycle. Fertile cervical fluid found during ovulation is the consistency of raw egg white and is stretchy.
