    Norton System Works 12.0. Frustration
Hello. I'm a new member. Been trying for days now to install Norton System Works 2009 premier edition..... but I always get this error:

The file system directory containing the user's link objects that may exist in the My Network Places virtual folder is invalid. A typical path is C:\Documnets and Settings\username\NetHood. Please correct this before installation.

Please tell me how to fix this problem............. I think its got something to do with registry entries.......... But I'm confused & frustrated!!!!!

    Any help is highly appreciated...

Norton System Works 2009 premier edition
    Resource hog...

It just eats up resource and it is way to big.

Norton 360 is smaller and lighter and does very well.

I already found your post at norton so it seems none of them know at this moment right?
I will look into this for you and see if I can find a solution.

    You have XP or vista?

they need to rename their app to... Standard Edition 12.0 for XP.

Variables that are recognized only in the user context
You can use these variables in the .xml files within sections with context=User and context=UserAndSystem.

CSIDL_NETHOOD cannot be used within the context=System.

Anti-virus apps are extreamly 'low level' applications, and need to install in the contex 'system'. Vista is much different in how it constructs it's virtual folders. The Norton anti-virus you are trying to install is failing in that. There is no 'Compatibility Mode' for such low level operations, and especially for firewalls.

    in short...

I believe Mark is saying that it can't be installed.
This may be because the program is designed for the Windows XP folder paths.
This would be a fix required from Norton's side. Although the software does state that it supports Windows Vista and XP. You may be required to check with Norton, to check the proper procedure for installing their product in Windows Vista.

Then you need to contact norton and have them assist you in the installation. They can use remote link and you can watch them install it and when the error arises the can see it then make the changes/fix needed to install.
