    Identify the artist. Gautier
I have an etching or lithograph with authentication from the Societe de Verification de la Nouvelle Gravure Internationale. I do wish it had more information on it, such as the year and artist, but if it ever WAS there, it has been destroyed by time. One would think that an organization with such an August name would have also registered its authentications, but I do not know how to locate any such registry.

The signature on the print looks for all the world like "Gautier," with no first name, or date, but it is clearly print no. 202 of 275. I have looked on-line for the artist several times, and I swear I thought I found a Bernard Gautier whose work was in the same style, but I cannot seem to replicate that search.

It is a woodland scene in primarily greens and black, with golden/red hues on the ground. Lovely.

I would like to learn more about this fellow. Any guidance?

Lucien Marcelin Gautier - Try a Google search on this name and see if the images are consistent with what you have. Good Luck!

Thanks, Art-Lover Forever, but that's not my guy. This is just not that old-- I am guessing 1940's or 50's. Probably should have mentioned that.

Katie: Try Louis Francois Léon Gautier (1855 - 1947). That may be a better fit. Rick

    Hi

    Some links to Bernard Gautier:

This is the one you want perhaps. Note that it is 234 of 350 with estimate 30-40 USD.

Your question mentioned the authenticating Societe. Here is what the folks who try to protect Daumier lithographs/etchings say about the Societe with respect to Daumier. (Check out index items 11/03/2003 and 6/17/2004) Here's the link:

    Discussion Forum

The Societe doing the authenticating was part of the Collectors Guild. If you Google the name of the society with the word fake you will find several well known artists' attribution names judged accordingly. Not necessarily yours.

If you want to pursue your Gautier print please provide a closeup of the print, the signature, title, any writings, and the authentication as it were. Enjoy the print for its aesthetic value.

I need to identify the artist in a print I have [ 1 Answers ]

The print (it is a mass produced print, not a painting) is of a mother and her two daughters, picking wildflowers in a landscape scene in the great plains - probably set in the late 19th century. I would think this is probably by a mid-20th century American artist. I have attached a scan of the...
