    Non-resident couple - different states
Hi. I am an F1 student in AZ and my husband is a non-resident H1 in WA. We want to file our state taxes jointly.

    1. Will we have to do it at both states?
    2. If yes, will we have to declare AZ's earnings while filing WA taxes and vice versa?

    Thanks!

When did your husband start on H1-B? Any previous visa? When did he enter the U.S.

He entered the US on Nov 26, 2008. He had a Business visa before he got his H1, and he visited US for a little more than a month in 2007. From 2001 to 2004 he lived in WA on an H1 visa.

You CAN file jointly both on the federal return and the AZ return.

You will pay taxes in AZ only on AZ-based income.

There is NO state tax return for WA.
