Cancer and hair loss and regrowth
Hi there,
I have a strange question, and honestly, I don't know if it should be here or the health section. So I will try my luck HERE first. My friend has cancer, she just went through chemo and radiation. She lost her hair during chemo, and it began to grow back normally during radiation. It was growing good, at her last radiation treatment she came home and a big chunk of her hair was missing at the nape of her neck. It's not beginning to grow back yet, and it's been 4 weeks.
What's going on? Will it grow back? How long until it begins to grow? How can she make it grow faster?

Usually, hair growth reoccurs anytime between 2 - 9 months after she's completed her radiation treatment. Some see hair growth intermittently, but it may be on and off and will come in patches and fall out in patches.
There's really no way of making her hair grow out faster as even if there was some miracle drug to make this happen, the radiation will actually halt the growth and most likely make it fall out again.
Good luck to your friend.

That's what we assumed, was that it had falllen out again from radiation. She's getting worried enough to see her doctor about it. I'll update.

Yes, as long as she is receiving her radiation treatment, the hair will fall out.

She is no longer doing radiation. She has been done with both for a month now.

Ah, then it should grow back within the next month to 8 months.
Best of luck to her.

Yup, Sneezy is correct, and I can attest to that from experience. It took about 8 months for my hair to grow back. It did not come back any different from what it was. Still the same color, texture and thickness as it was before.

Hers has completely grown in a different color as well.. It was red, and now it's dark dirty blonde.
