Idols then dies
Okay my 2001 honda civic lx check engine light came on, and the car was running really poorly so I thought I had water in the tank so I treated it for that same problem. Idols then dies. I also can't accel over 3,000 RPMs. So I took it to a shop and he hooked it up to a computer and it said it was the MAP sensor so I replaced it and still same problem. I had it hooked up again with the new sensor and it still says that its malfunctioning. Please any help would be nice.

Have you had the car serviced recently?
My first thought was the computer and that the car may have been running lean on petrol but you say you have had this checked...
Spark plugs are a common cause of this as my car is currently doing it (stalling at traffic lights) I just haven't gotten around to servicing it yet :o
Another cause could be the fuel filter, many people forget to replace these or ask for them to be replaced during a service.
---edited to say get your coil packs checked as well :)

. Replace the spark plugs (NGK only) with the exact platinum plugs that came in the car. Be sure to lightly coat the porcelein portion of the plug with dielectric grease, as well as the main electrode. This will help prevent misfires.
. Ensure that each coil-on-plug (COP) is firing properly.
If the problem persists, focus on the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor.
What was the exact code that was thrown?

My first thought was the fuel filter but on 2001 honda civics there is no fuel fulter. Last time I had it serviced was about 2 months ago. How do you check coil packs?

I don't remember the code it but it was a faulty map sensor. Where's the CKP sensor?

Ahh OK, sorry don't know much about civics. These are just the problems I've faced in the past with cars idling rough...
I'll get bahamut in here as he can give you more detailed info!

Hey how's it going, shazamataz suggested I get on here lol, easiest way 2 check coil packs are to remove the whole coil pack and spark plug but leave it attached to the wiring loom then turn over the car while holding the coil pack and spark plug as close to the block as u can, other things it could be is air lines if there's a hole in one it can cause the map sensor to tell the computer there is too much air going in to the motor and counter act it with fuel, also check that your fuel pump is working correctly! Ok so I need a new throttle sensor but I have to buy the throttle body as well. Well my bright thought that I could do it myself and I've got it all together except the pulleys I'm stuck and don't know how to put them back on

How are you stuck? Pulleys are usually pretty simple, if you can look on the net for a service manual that would help you more than anything :)
