    Power outlet for a RV that has a 50 amp wiring
    Good afternoon
    We have recently purchased a 5th wheel trailer that has a 50 amp service that is reduced down to 30 amp.
    I presently have a gfi outlet outside that is on a 20 amp breaker.
    Will I have to run new electrical wire to a new sub panel outside so I have suffecient power for the trailer?
    What size of wire would be required from the main service panel ?

    You have a Panel that had a 50 Amp Inlet, converted to 30 Amps, and the 20 amprecepticle is on that panel. And you have a cord that plugs into a 30 Amp RV Receptacle. You should be OK, but limit you to 30 Amps.
    You have a 30 amp cord, and not a 50 amp cord, and figure you only need 30 Amps?

    The 50A-120/240v to 30A-120V converter plug will limit what you can run at the same time. If this is just for storage and very rare occupancy it will be fine.
    If you plan to have several people in the trailer for extended time you should run the proper 50A-120/240v circuit, especially if A/C will be used.

    Using a 50A to 30A to 20A converter plug then you are even that much more limited. You do NOT need a sub-panel for this.

    If you have no idea what I am talking about you really should have an electrician run this circuit.

    We will be running an air conditioner in the trailer, Also another RV will be plugged in so I believe we will require the full 50 amp service and this is why I was asking if I should have the sub panel. We would install a new receptable for servicing the one trailer and then I was thinking of another receptable with another 30 amp breaker?
