Civil Law Suit
Someone owes me a little over $1600.00 dollars and to hire a lawyer would cost that much so I want to do it myself. I live in Virginia and she lives in DC right now with no fixed address because she is staying in hotels and motels. I have her name and where she stores her antiques (she used to have a antique store in Washington DC). How do I sue her for the money she owes me? I have a check for $1200.00 but it's over one year old and she owes me for one of the storage units that I paid for for 6 months or so. She owes me $40.00 in cash I lent her for gas and food after she stayed with me for 6 days. She has not returned any of me calls and I want my money.

You need her residence address in order to serve her - if you serve her at any other address (the address of the unit, for example) and get a Judgment it can be set aside for bad service.
You need to find out where she is living. She gave you a check but you never cashed it?

I never cashed the check because I believed her when she said she didn't have the money in her account and the Bank Manager confirmed that. She said she would get the money and I could cah it later even after the 6 month period for checks. The Bank Manager did cash 2 checks past the 6 month period for me after I had spoken to my "friend" who told me to go to the bank and cash them. The Manager called her to confirm this and did it. What is "GET A JUDGEMENT IT CAN BE SET ASIDE FOR BAD SERVICE" mean?

It means if a person gets a Judgment against a person who has not been legally served according to State Law the Judgment can be set aside - for bad service.
Please don't use caps - that's the equivalent to shouting and I am only trying to answer your questions.

This is a legal thread. Those of us who volunteer our time here take great pride in our answers. Some of us are educated in the law, some are self taught, some are practicing Attorneys, some do terrific research.
Please stick to the law. Your response is inappropriate and ill advised.

Please stick to watching television and not trying to give legal advice on a legal board. This "answer" was of no help whatsoever to the OP.
