    Dual status alien - personal exemption
    Hi,

    My wife is a dual status person for US tax purposes for 2008. She had an income of about 5K. Can she claim a personal exemption for herself (line 6a) for $3500 while filing 1040? She hasn't claimed me or my child as a dependent. Thank you.

    If she is not a dependent, she will get personal exemption on dual status return or nonresident return.
