Water keeps filling in basement repair "trench"
I had to jackhammer 14' of my basement floor to expose kitchen waste pipe. Entire pipe was corroded and now replaced. But it has been over a week now and I keep getting water filling part of the trench. The trench is about 18" deep of mud and clay. Each day I shop vac 4-5 gallons of water out of it. The guess is the pipe was corroded and draining straight into the soil for 5-6 years. Do I have an underground reservoir of old kitchen water? I have no exterior drainage problems, live on high ground, and there hasn't been rain for weeks. Will it dry out so I can pour new concrete over trench?
    Thanks, Kristi

It should dry out in time unless for some reason there is a high water table there. More than likely it was the bad sewer line.

Use rice mix crushed stone to fill in voids and around pipe. When you go to re pour concrete use 3/8" rebar and drill into sides of old floor about every 16 to 24 inches. Let rebar pins stick out about 3" inches or so. This is to keep the new pour from lifting hydraulically and from settling.

You can wait to see if it goes down but that may take awhile. Follow above instructions and it should be fine.

Is there a "flap" for a basement toilet that water comes in under? [ 27 Answers ]

We have an issue with the city's sewer system in which when it rains (pours, hard) water will come back into the house from out back. The clean out "flap" will close outside but it's never air tight, thus allowing some water back in. the only place it comes in is under our toilet in the...
