Am I able to get a deposit back after almost a year?
Hello! My boyfriend and I put down a deposit on a used pop up trailer ($500) subject to whether we could come up with the rest of the funds to purchase $6000.00.(Iknow we didn't really put a whole lot of planning into it. At the time it seemed like a good deal; with a high pressure salesperson to boot!) We did make a couple trips to the trailer (not documented) to check on the status of them getting it ready. They were to clean it out and get the toilet and shower in working condition etc... I know I went there on 3 occasions where all they did was move the trailer off to the side and still hadn't cleaned it. In the meantime the companies we checked with wanted to rob us blind with the interest rates so we both said forget about financing we'll get our money back and save some more money to we wouldnt' have to finance. Well long story short almost a year later (tax time) the boyfriend asks me which account I put the 500 dollars back into. I thought he was going to get the deposit back and I guess he thought I was going to get it back. Lol Needless to say neither of us got the deposit back. Now on the back of the receipt it states that they would forward something to us in writing stating they we going to keep the deposit. We haven't received anything to this affect and we still reside at the same address as stated on the write up protion. We didn't even receive a call back. Are we entitled to receive this deposit back even though it's been almost a year? We are in Ontario if this information helps. Also I can quote the back of the form in more detail if this will help.
    Many Thanks, Tracy

Well first I doubt you could have even gotten it back then, normally a deposit to hold a item is not returned ifyou don't buy it, it is money to hold a item. There is no point to taking money to hold something if they would just give the money back if you don't take it.
