    linear equation systems
    Hi there, can someone help me with this please? I don't get it at all
    Hockey teams receive 2 points every time they win and 1 point every time they tie. One season a team won a championship with 57 points. They won 9 more games then they tied. How many wins and how many ties did the team have? Thanks I appreciate any help you can give.

    Let w = number of times they won and t = number of times they tied.

    2w will be the points they obtained from their won matches and 1t (or simply t) will be the points they got on tied matches. So, total points will be

    2w + t = 57

    Now, w will be greater than t by 9, so,

    w = t+9

    With those two equations, you'll be getting your answer by simultaneously solving them.

    Hope it helped! :)
