Ceiling fan & lights sometimes go on & off by self
We have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with four lights. It is about 9 yrs. Old and operates either by chain or remote control. It is connected also to a light switch. Because of its location we only use the remote. It is located on a cathederal ceiling in our great room. The problem is about 6 months ago the fan started going on by it self and when it did go on it would be on high. Then the lights would also go on with the fan. Recently only the lights go on and if the lights are already on they will flicker on and off until we turn them off and then turn it back on. A friend had a different brand of fan with the same problem and he said the he had to replace the circuit board not sure if ours would have a circuit board and if so could it be replaced. Any advice would be greatly appreciarted

Before you replace anything try changing the dip switches in both the remote and the receiver. That requires you to get up to the fan and open the canopy right at the ceiling. You may be getting a stray RF signal from a neighbors fan or garage door. Just be sure that both units match in regards to the dip switches when you are done.
