Internship in New York City ; NYC taxes applicable?
Hello I am a student in upstate New York and I am on F1 visa. This summer I was interning in New York City (also living in Manhattan) for 3 months. I see that locality tax (most probably New York City tax) was deducted from on paycheck.

    My questions are :

    1. Do I need to pay New York city taxes?
    2. If yes, what forms should I be filling and what address should I be sending them to.
    3. What other attachments (W2 etc) do I need to send along with the forms mentioned in Q2 above.
    4. If no, how do I claim a refund?

    Regards,
    Ambrish

F1 students are not considered residents of the city.

    1) No.

    2) Claim the refund when you file your NY state tax.

    3) A copy of your F-1 visa with a statement that, as an international student, you are NOT liable for NYC taxes.

    4) Claim the refund on the NY state tax form.
