    Gave kitty cough medicine
The kitty was coughing now for 3 days, e1 in the house has had a cold, didn't believe animals could catch the cold, the kitty has been cough for 3 days, it is a dry hacking cough like we had, so I gave him just a touch, not much of the equate cough syrup for colds and cough. It was enough for him just to lick it and taste the horrible taste.

I don't know about cats and medicine but. I do know that cats can get sick. They can get cancer and I think that cancer can be spread to other cats. I can't think of the word. But cancer I think can be spread

Please take your cat to a vet! And do NOT give it any human medicine unless the vet says okay. The cat did not get a cough from humans. Something else is wrong.

Cancer is not contagious! Where did you hear this from?

Please, if you don't have the facts then don't post, leave it for someone who knows what they are talking about.

As for cats getting sick, of course they can, all living things have the ability to get sick.

OP, take your cat to the vet, you don't want to risk it.

Don't give human medications to animals... ever.
It could be anyone of a number of things from hair balls to cat flu, you really need to get your kitty to a vet.

skittlesdcat1, you do realize a cat and a human are completely different beings, right? Don't EVER give human stuff to cats unless you know for sure that it's an OK thing for a cat. You could just make him sicker or even kill him trying stuff like that.

And yes, cats can get sick. Something sounding like a "hacking cough" might actually be wheezing or an attempt to puke or all kinds of things that aren't actually a cough. Regardless, the only way you're going to find out what it is would be taking him to a vet.

Just a handy tidbit related to human medicine... paracetemol tablets (panadol/advil etc) are deadly to cats.

I have two cats and they have never had a cold. They have had the dry cough and it ended up being furballs and barf. Wonderful stuff. As for the cancer... yeah.. that doesn't spread. Doesn't spread in humans and it doesn't spread with cats. But please take the kitty to the vet. They'll know what's going on

Please take your cat to the vet!

Coughing in cats can be congestive heart failure or cardiomyopathy, I've seen this before. Get this checked immediately to rule out possibly fatal problems.
