My dog tested possitive for parvo but.
Our dog had a small about of vomiting (no blood) on Friday march 27. He threw up some bile and some foamy spit.

On the following Saturday he seemed really tired so we took him to the er vet where we asked him to be tested for parvo and he came up positive. By this time he had not vomited again and had only 1 instance of diarrhea. So on Monday we took him to his vet to be hospitalized but at this time he had not vomited again and he had not had any more bowel movements. He refused food and water. He has been at the vets for a couple of days now and has not vomited or had bowel movements and is very active (managed to rip his IV off and shred his medical records... twice!) So overall he has been ill for 5 days now but with hardly any vomit and diarrhea and the vets are talking about discharging him to us today.

Should we insist he remain at the vets? Is the worst over? His tests are coming up with good white cell counts and he did eat a small amount yesterday and drank on his own though he hasn't today. Any advice? He is not a puppy he's a full grown dog though albeit he is young (1 year and a month)

From what you describe, why would you hesitate to bring him home ? The vomitting is under control, as is the loose bowels and he is frisky. What else?

If he drinking on his own and keeping the fluids? That's the most important thing. Its usually dehydration that kills the puppies not the illness itself.

Well just thought Id pop in and let those interested know that so far the dog is great. Since he returned home he has been eating like a horse and keeping it all down and is drinking water. His stools have been nice and solid and is playful and active. He is back to the dog we knew before this all started. We are keeping a careful eye on him and we are still neurotically disinfecting everything from top to bottom 2 or 3 times a day but as it looks he will be fine and so will our other dogs.

    Thanks for your answers guys

    I'm glad he's okay.

At 1 1/2 years old he's obviously been immunized. Doesn't mean that parvo is impossible, but that's probably why he survived and didn't have too bad a time with it.

Good luck and enjoy your pup. :)
