First year choice statement and ITIN form
Hi, I have some questions about the tax return.

    1. My husband is holding H1-B now, he changed his status in Oct 1st, 2008 from F1. I'm holding F1 visa now. 2008 is the first year we choose to file joint return as residence, do we need to attach first year choice statement?

    2. We want to file the extension for the tax return. I'm applying for the SSN recently (maybe need 2 more months to get it). For the extension, should I need to apply for the ITIN or just write "applying the SSN" in the extension form?

    Thank you

    1) Yes, you do. But if you did not, do not worry about it, because the IRS does not seem to care too much one way or the other.

    2) Write "applying the SSN" on the extension form.
