I am replacing an old ceiling fan/light combo with a new one. The old one worked fine, could control both the light and the fan separately from the 2 wall switches. I did not see how the old fan was wired... idiot... now I am lost trying to wire the fan and light to be controlled by the wall switch.

Wall switches = 4. I know #1 was light, and #2 was fan, but not sure if #3 or #4 worked for anything (new-to-me house)

Ceiling wires. 1 bare, 1 black, 1 white, 1 thin blue, 2 thin white (twisted together) and 2 thin black (twisted together).


I currently have the fan working with chain control only, by only connecting bare to green, white to white, black to black and blue on the fan.

Now that everything is down you need to decide which switch you want to control the fan and which for the light. Test them with a tesre and then label once you have made your decision. The fan has several wires. White is neutral , one to the light and one to the fan, black from your fan switch goes to your black on the fan. The black on the light switch ges to the blue on the light. Do you want to control this init byt the oulls or by the wall switches?

Taking a guess here, so you're taking a chance by trying it. With a meter you could figure it out for sure.

Black to thin blue. Fan white to regular white. Fan black to 2 thin white OR 2 thin black, fan blue to 2 think black OR 2 thin white, whichever is left.

Either way this wiring is a bit funny.
