Is Trane better than Lennox?
I have to replace my complete air/heating unit. I live in fort Worth, TX. The house is 10 years old, needs a 5 ton. I have three bids, trane XR 13 seer - $3,700; Lennox XC 13 seer - $3,500; Carrier 13 seer - $5,200. I can make each of these a heat pump for $500 additional.
My questions are below.
1. Are these good bids?
2. Are these good units?
3. Which brand should I go with?

I would rather have Trane than a Lennox but I would also rather have a Carrier than a Trane.
I also think that you could get a better bid on a Carrier than the one you have.
Also why would you want a heat pump?

The heat pump was an option and they said is cheaper to run.

Just about anything is better than a Lennox
Its not that they are so terrible, it's that when it comes time to need replacment parts they are hard to find and slow for the dealers to get them

I have 3 bids for trane, which I will probably take, but these range from $3700 to $7000. These are both 13 seer, 5 ton units, including all warranties, pan, all the same. Why the huge difference?

This is a question I would ask the dealers,, it doesn`t sound right,
Make sure you get referances as to the best installers, even the best /or expensive equipment can be junk if not installed correctly

I have no problem with Carrier or any of it's other brands and to be honest my main gripe with Trane is availability of replacement parts. If I need a Trane part the same day I have to drive to Chicago. Lennox on the other hand just sucks all around.
