Is Child ITIN required for State Filing?
Me and my wife have SSN, daughter has just applied for ITIN along with Federal returns. I am told it will take 10 weeks to process.

I prepared the CT state tax return for paper filing using TAXACT and printed out the completed form, but it shows only mine and wife's name on top. There is no child information. Federal had her information. Is this OK? I mean, is this how it will be? This is my first time here in US.

Do I need to still attach the copy w7 of my daughter while sending the state returns? Since State return does not have my daughters info, how it will matter? I am eligible for refunds.

Also, the CT state tax instruction page says do not send copy of W2. But in W2 I can see a section to be filed along with State return. Which one is correct?

File for extension for CT tax return. File only when you get ITIN.

So, shall I assume that Child ITIN is also required for State returns even though child details are not present in the return?

If you are not claiming your daughter as dependent, you do not need ITIN for her.

I just wanted to update a follow up for this in case someone wants to know what happened.

I submitted CT return without my daughters ITIN. Me and wife have SSN.

I have claimed my daughter as dependent while filing.

For CT returns only Mine and wife's SSN was required in the return form. Nowhere it asked for child ITIN. In the Federal returns I left the column blank. Applied for ITIN using w7 along with Federal by visiting IRS office. It was very easy. I filled the tax form manually as TaxAct online was not letting me add the child tax credit without SSN or ITIN.

ITIN arrived after 6 weeks and within a few days CT refund was credited. I did not initimate CT about the new ITIN arrival, they seem to have got automatically from federal or does not bother about child ITIN.

Federal refund took few more days and got credited to my bank account.

Many states do NOT require that you provide the child's name or SSN when you claim the child. CT seems to be one of those states, in which case the ITIN is not needed.

If it turns out that CT wants to know the name and ITIN for your child, they will notify you of that requirement, which you can provided since you now have her ITIN.
