Wrongful termination
In January I was fired from my job, based on the fact that I started school. The owner would not give me the hours I needed to go to school and continue working. A week later she gave the hours I needed to the new male employee. What should I do?

Most likely nothing, unless you can prove he gave it to them only because they were male. If they were a better worker or had other skills or had more seniority.
But they can fire you if you can not work the hours "THEY" want. And can fire you if you are not available.
But they can not do it merely because you are female. So prove it with some inter office memo, some management statement as to the reason.

Find a new job?
I assume you were an employee at will, so they could fire you for nearly anything.

You can contact an employment law attorney in your area.
Most cases are taken on a contingency and they will be able to tell you if you have a win-able case.
You do need to evaluate why you believe that they would not give you the hours you requested and give them to a new employee? Most companies are not required to be considerate of your hours if you are returning to school.

Yes, I could see my bosses face if I went and told him that I needed him to change my job. Not sure if he would laugh before or after he fired me for not working the hours he wanted me to.

I don't think you have a wrongful termination lawsuit - it's employment at will and you can be terminated for ASKING that your hours be changed.
