    Good news to share
My son's friend got involved in a viscious crime last year... was with the wrong people at the wrong time and along with other boys around his age, faced serious possible attempted murder charges. It was an awful shock at the time and sent my son's group of friends into a spin. My son was amazing and stayed friends with his mate throughout his entire ordeal. My partner also stood by him, as he has worked as a volunteer in the past training prisoners in debate and understood and believed in this boy's potential. It gave me a lot of respect for my partner.

So today was special as we had some great news, as my son's friend, who although he knows he made a very serious mistake did in fact help a boy get away from his attackers, has been let off with only nine months probation.

It's a huge relief to know this boy of 18 has a big second in life. He's shown he's basically a good kid and has enormous potential. His attitude towards life has turned around completely.

I'm just so glad he has this chance to prove himself and can look forward to enjoying all his freedom.

    Hello frangipanis

Let's hope you are correct that the boy has changed, and got the warning! Afteral, let's not forget that someone was killed.

Sorry sarnian, I obviously wasn't being very clear. No-one was killed. My son's friend didn't lay a hand on anyone else, either. He was with a group of boys where one had the idea he was going to exact revenge on someone he had known since childhood... stupidly having plotted to bump him off. My son's friend got swept along in his mad scheme, but when push came to shove, he backed right off and helped the boy get away.

There's no doubt a boy was seriously hurt by their madness and brutality. Being the victim, he is on a different journey of healing. I simply wish all these young men the best in life.
