    Gold Crown
    Does a gold crown provide more cold and heat sensitivy than a porcelain crown? Also, are you more likely to get a root canal by getting a gold crown vs a porcelain crown? Thank you for your help and have a great day!

    In my experience, the gold crown is the BEST way to go. It is more forgiving technique wise for the dentist AND the lab technician. It requires LESS tooth removal (0.5-1.5 mm), will never break, and generally uses a "tooth-friendly" cement when it is put on. Porcelain can fracture, requires more tooth removal (1-2.5 mm), is abrasive to opposing teeth, is more technique sensitive, and may require resin cementation which can irritate your tooth. You are less likely to require a root canal with gold... I always offer it as the best choice to my patients if esthetics is not a concern

    In my 28 yrs in practise you could end up with a root canal on either a gold or porcelain crown. The gold crown is much healthier for you and as Amir said less tooth structure needs to be removed and porcelain can break depending on your bit.e
