What's the alternative that you heard about and who told you about it?

Your vet may not be willing to perform the alternative because he/she doesn't know the procedure. It's not necessarily that he/she is unwilling, but uneducated in that area.

If you are set on getting the other procedure then find a vet that knows how to do it.

    Good luck.

Who told you it would be okay for your dog? Another vet, or just a friend?

It sounds like your only option is surgery, but you could always get a second opinion.

Get a second opinion from another vet, and if he concurs with your vet, then yes. There are injections for people that help ligaments heal faster, but it does not solve the problem completely. Has the vet at least put a splint on his leg until you decide? You want to take care of this problem soon, or the problem could get a whole lot worse.

If you asked me, I would have to say that you should go for the surgery also. I'm not a vet, but ligaments are a tricky thing, and take a very long time to heal. Trust me, they do and they hurt like heck! I've got torn ligaments myself right now. I would hate to see a pup in the pain I've been in. Please take care of this so your pup doesn't suffer any further. I can use crutches, a pup can't.
