Defending rumors
Hello AMHD,
My GF recently heard that a girl from her previous employer is telling everyone that my GF is pregnant. It made her very upset. I see the girl that tells these rumors almost everyday when I do my daily work errands. I have no intention on making a big deal about rumors and I don't want to get involved in all the drama. MY GF suggested that when I see her today that I should confront her and tell her to not spread that rumor.
I was wondering what everyone's stance is on defending their GF or BF from rumors.

A rumor is half-way around the world before the truth even has it's shoes on.
Meaning: Don't even try to waste your breathe defending the rumor, because one of two things will happen;
1. They will take your defending the rumor as truth and spread it more.
2. They won't care, the gossip is good and still spread it.

I'm going to have to agree with Rome on this. Just ignore it - act like this kind of immaturity and drama is BENEATH you... because it is! If your GF asks you, tell her that same line. "Baby, I am above drama. I don't feel the need to confront anyone about such a ridiculously silly rumor."

Rome and UD,
That is exactly what I told her I was going to do and I told her to not let it bother her either. She just seemed to get upset because I wasn't upset.

It's understandable that she's upset over it, a rumor like that could have devastating effects to someone's self esteem. Not to be judgmental, but women are more prone to being bothered by rumors than men are, we have a "thicker skin" to say, we can let things roll off our backs, especially childish rumors. She might take this pregnancy rumor as people think she's gaining weight or her self image is damaged by this.
If this is by a previous employer, she can press charges against them, if she wishes too.

To be honest this is something that your girlfriend most tackle and she can tackle it best with grace. She has to stand strong because people will always talk and when they have nothing to talk about they start making up lies. Then rumors start because they spread those lies.
She knows it isn't true and hopefully people that knows her knows the truth as well. So sticks and stones might break your bones but words slide out of you like water. When she hears it she should just laugh it off and go about with her day.
If it was me I would say "yeah and I am 9 months pregnant and due any day(with sacrasm)". Laugh it off! Can' you image with stars go through with the rumors.

I would confront her and tell her that you have heard she is spreading rumors,give her an opportunity to defend her position.
I would do so for my mate and I would expect the same from him.
It need not be a pointing finger accusatory thing,just a polite question of did you say this?
