Hello, I'm Ben

I have a question about a film I watched as a kid. It was set in space and I can only remember a few details about it. Here are the main bits I remember:

It's about a child and his "egg microphone". I can't remember the meaning of the film, only that this microphone had a voice on the end of a man, helping this child (who I think was called Mike) to find something or someone.

I remember it has a an old guy in it, with a metal plate on his head (part of his head)

It also had these flying beings who were of different colours, pink and yellow I think. They spoke to each other but had no mouths, ears or noses, just a pair of eyes. They also had arms and legs.

A scene I remember is where "mike"(I'm not etirely sure it's his name, but it was said A LOT in the film) is walking along with some sort of animal on all fours, who ate what looked like pears through a hole in it's snout. I also remember that this animal gets tangled up in vines of some sort and is then taken away from Mike after it seems to die struggling to get out.

That's about all I can remember but I would really like to watch it!

All I can say is that my Mum said I saw in in the early 90's or late 80's at easter time on TV, where my Dad recorded it. So the age of the film is unknown really.
