    F1 (OPT)--H1b and first time house buyer
    Dear tax experts:

    I still have some questions about the dual status tax return after reading most of the helpful posts.

    I came to US at August 2006 as F1 student, and started my work from October 2007 (OPT), and got the H1b visa in Oct 2008. So for year 2008, my status is F1 (OPT) from Jan to Sep, and H1b from October 1. I left US for vacation from Dec 16 and have my H1b visa checked until now. I also bought a house in Nov 2008.

    If I want to get the treaty for my F1 period, and the $7,500 tax credit for first time house buyer, I have to file the extension for first year choice. Am I right until now? And do I still have the montage interest credits and the 600$ rebate? For the resident alien period, do I have the same tax deduction as full-year residents? Thanks in advance.

    If you are single, you will file nonresident tax return, will get treaty deduction and will not get home buyer credit.
