Very low hot water pressure, moen 1 handle shower valve
I have a moen 1 handel shower valve. When I turn it on I have good cold pressure but hardly any hot pressure. I removed handle and turned stem all the way to hot but still I have low pressure. I tried to adjust scald guard but that is not the problem is there any other adjustment?

Yes if you consider removing the cartridge an adjustment. Shut off your supply to the house and open the shower valve to relieve the pressure. With the handle and escutcheon plate removed you should see a small clip stick up along the top front edge of the cartridge body right by the letters HC. Pry that clip up but grab it with a needle nose plyer before it flys off. Now you can pull out the cartridge and clean the inlets. Before reinstalling cover the opening with a towel and hold firmly as someone else turns the main on/off fairly quickly, this cleans out the pipe. Grease the cartridge with silicone jel or plumbers grease and reinstall. If this has not solved your problem call Moen, they will send you a free replacement cartridge. http://www.moen.com/consumersupport/...ustomersupport

How do I remove Moen cartridge? I removed clip and tried to pull cartridge out, but it will not come out. Should I pull harder or is there something else I have to do first?

John's stem puller is the perfect tool but before you buy/rent one thry this. Get a 12" larger channel lock and grab the stem very tightly, twist in one direction and pull very firmly. Keep twisting hard and keep pulling, its just crud holding it in at this point, if it still doesn't budge then getthepuller. I attached a Moen tutorial to help you along this road. Hey there! First post here.
I tried to remove my Moen 1222 cartridge as well. (They are sending me a new one as we speak) I could not get it out w/ vice grips or anything else! Before attempting this, I turned off the hot & cold water shut offs and put it back while waiting for my new cartridge. It's all messed up. Is there a proper way of re-setting the default settings?

I received the new cartridge today from Moen. Still this old cartridge would not budge. I finally after using vice grips managed to break the stem off deep. I then drilled two holes in the plastic, threaded 2 screws in there, and then broke them as well. Now I'm in big trouble with no way of getting the old one out?

If you take a longer screw through the plastic body it will push against the back wall of the diverter body and push the plastic out. Essentially, the screw keeps turning but does not advance so the plastic rides up the screw toward the head. Did it today, then went to the hardware store to buy the replacment cartridge and saw the tool... wish I had seen the tool before. It looks like it would work well.

I want to thank you all. Redid my bathroom. Always had very low pressure. Very hard to get that cartridge out but I did. Took a coat hanger and bent it around and in the slat for the hot water. Kind of scrapped it around. Out fell 3 little bb pellets (solder) that was trapped in there by the original plumber. 20 year old home. I had to do this 4 times total until all clear. By myself - so put the cartridge back in. Turned the water back on. A bit better. Did the same thing again - another bb pellet and so for and so on until no more pellets. PRESSURE FOR THE HOT OUT THE GAZOO. Great stuff. Thanks

You should have used the Moen cartridge puller. Now I can see no option but to replace the entire faucet.
However, if you can jam something down there and manage to break the "O" rings free and turn the cartridge you might just be able to get a set of vice grips on it and pull it out, Good luck, Tom
