Paying out of pocket for car damages
This is a confusing case, I recently crossed the center line around a curve on a city road. The driver of the other car claims he scrapped the side of a snow bank avoiding me. He got the plate number. The cop said the bumper of his car was cracked and told us to handle it ourselves no police report made or evidence. The driver wants $900 dollars out of my pocket and doesn't want to get insurance involved cause he says this will result in me getting a ticket and my rates going up. I don't know what to do in this situation. I don't have that kind of money to pay and legally don't think its right to pay him directly. Anyone have any ideas of what to do or have been in this kind of situation?

You need to call your ins company and have them handle it ,you did not get a ticket on the spot so your not going to get one now for making a claim

    What?

If you don't want to pay out of pocket, then you have to file the claim with your insurance company - you need to do so immediately so the company does not deny on grounds that it was not reported in a timely fashion.

Do I understand that you crossed over, he moved to avoid you, had car damage and you kept going?

No, he wants the damage to his car repaired. So either ask for photos and more than one estimate OR report it to the insurance company.
