Smelly Shower Drain
Did you ever find out what may have been causing the odor? I have a similar problem.

Don,
Where does it smell the strongest? The shower drain? Near the toilet? Describe the smell. Back to you, Tom

Since we never heard back from pisser two years ago I figured my vinegar and water killed him off or something.

Thank you for answering. The smell seems to be strongest on the floor under where the shower head sprays. I plugged the bottom of the shower and filled it with water and Miracle Brand Disinfectant then cleaned the walls while it sat. Directly after this I could still smell it faintly, the next morning I thought I'd solved the problem but about 24 hours later the smell was back worse than before. One thing we did notice is that the grout on the floor is thin enough that the fibers from the tile sheet are poking through in places and there are a few pin size holes in the grout. The tile is laid on a layer of black painted on sealant which is on concrete which is in a copper drip pan. The smell seems to fluctuate throughout the day. Any ideas?

It sounds like you may have a mold problem. If you have pinholes or the grout has shrunk then water can enter and stagnate. This water contains grease from the soap and anything else that it may have in it. Dark space. Moisture, mold loves those conditions. You might want to click on: Mold, Mildew, & Bacteria Disinfectant - Google Search
And check out the disinfectants. Good luck, Tom

Thank you again for your ideas! A few more things about this shower. It's 6 months old and the smell started about 2 months after completion. The smell resembles sour laundry or gym like smell. Does that smell like mold? Your thought about stagnating water in the grout sound promising. Can you tell me more about that?

If you have pinholes in the grout then call in a tile man to check it out or dig out the grout, disinfectant the area and regrout. This sounds like a faulty installation from the git-go. Nothing to tell about stagnant water except that it stinks like hell. Let me know how you make out. Tom

Please recommend how to stop the smell coming from the shower stall drain. The shower is located on the second floor. I have poured bleach down it and let it sit for about 30 minutes but the smell returns. I have read to use oxygenated bleach but I am not sure if this would work any better.

Hi, I have a condo and a bathroom upstairs. In the recent couple of months I have been trying to find out where a gas smell from my tub's shower drain is coming from. I have checked the trap and it's clean, I have checked under the tub (I have two access panels that pull off) and found no leaks...

WE have a shower stall, house in on slab 3 yrs old. Bathroom never smells "clean". Have traced it to shower drain, have tried bathrooms cleaners, bleach, and drain clogging liquid (even though drain functions fine). Will smell OK for a few days, then comes back. Grrrrr.
What can I do?
