Name change on quit claim deed
I legally changed my name a few years ago but never updated my quit claim deed. How do I change the name on my deed?

You have to prepare a new deed that has the title "Corrective Deed". It should be a copy of the old deed but it should list the seller as your former name and the buyer as your new name. It should also contain a statement that the purpose of the deed is to reflect the change in the name of the owner. The amount of the purchase price should be $1.00.

After you prepare the deed, sign it and have it properly witnessed and notarized, it has to be recorded in the county clerk or county register's office.

I suggest that you have this done by an attorney or title agency to make sure that it's done properly. It shouldn't be expensive and you won't have to worry about messing up your title or trying to fix mistakes later.
