Hi, I had to turn off the main shut off valve in the house to fix a problem. When I turned it back on, it has a continuous drip. Is this common and do I just need to wait it out? I noticed similar problem with other shut off valves in the house. I'm worried about a flood!!

I will be out of town for a month or 2 and am going to shut the water off at the shutoff valve in the house. I have a couple of old connections that leak and need repair but won't be able to get to them until I get back. Is there any need to drain the pipes & hot water heater ? Thanks
